Impact Award To Recognize Non-Teaching Staff

-Nominations from students and parents welcome to celebrate non-teaching staff members

Children become successful thanks to their own talents and initiative, but critical to getting them on the right track are the combined efforts of many adults, at home and in school.

Students and parents have the opportunity to make nominations for the Impact Award to recognize Dearborn Public Schools staff members, besides teachers, who make outstanding contributions to helping students, enhancing the classroom environment or providing excellent customer service in other roles.

The deadline for submitting Impact Award nominations to the Dearborn Public Schools Office is noon on Friday, April 20, 2018.  

Just as the Teacher of Year award celebrates the classroom teachers, the Impact Award recognizes all other (non-teaching) staff members who demonstrate the District’s Core Values and strive to create a better Dearborn Public Schools.  Nominees should be consistently professional, personable and polite as they work with students, contribute to the classroom environment, and provide overall customer service.  

District employees who are eligible for the Impact Award include full or part time staff members employed with the Dearborn Public Schools for more than three years.

Examples of staff members who are eligible include Principals, Parapros, Custodians, Bus Drivers, Secretaries, Media Specialists, Food Service Staff, Social Workers, Skilled Trades, Computer Technicians, or anyone who is not a classroom teacher but works for the Dearborn Public Schools.  

Previous nominees may be nominated, however previous Impact Award winners may not win again.

Nomination forms with a complete list of qualifications can be found and completed online at Printed nomination forms may be requested at all school offices and the District’s Administration Office, 18700 Audette, Dearborn 48124.

Four winners will be announced on May 22 at the annual Green Tie Event, sponsored by the Dearborn Education Foundation.  Winners will receive $500 and an engraved award.

Howard Elementary Color Run

On Saturday, April 28th, 2018 Howard Elementary School will be hosting its 1st Annual Howard Dragon’s Color Run in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention month. There will be an untimed 5k and 1 mile fun run throughout the neighborhood where you will pass through color zones and get doused in a rainbow of color.

Prior to the race there will be free yoga classes in the park offered to all ages and experience levels. There will also be a food truck rally going on throughout the event. In addition, there will be a phenomenal feature performance from the outstanding Blue Crow Talent Circus Troupe. Prepare to be amazed! This is a super fun event for all ages that promotes the importance of our youth, education, and a life-long healthy way of living. This event will also bring our strong community together to make a difference.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention month so our goal is to bring awareness and support to two amazing charities that we will be donating 10% of the proceeds to each, Child Help- prevention and treatment for abused and neglected children and Forgotten Harvest- stopping child hunger. The rest of the proceeds will go to each Howard classroom for teacher support and the funding of educational programs. We all know how much teachers spend out of their own pockets, so this will be extremely helpful.

Teacher of the Year Nomination Information!

The Albert Muirhead Teacher of the Year Award ceremonies encourage students to participate in nominating their teachers.  This is the perfect way for our students to pay back the good that teachers do and say thank you!

Applications are online on the Dearborn Public Schools’ home page and it’s just a short form that needs to be filled out. The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday March 16th at 5pm Students can nominate any teacher they have had within the district.

Secret Santa Shop is coming next week!

This is a secret holiday shopping experience for our kids to shop for Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, Grandma, Grandpa, Teacher, Dog, Cat, etc.

Each item is $2.  We need helpers for set up, tear down, shopping assistance, and register.

Attention Lindbergh families

Planning is underway for our
2018 Battle of the Books!

What it is:  Students are divided into multi-grade teams, and each member will be asked to read and answer questions on 3 books from a list of 10.  These books are popular titles and will be reserved for our participants in the school library; however, you may need to also check out the local library, as we will not have copies for every participant.  Many of these books you may already own!
The complete book list will be given to participants at our
Kick-Off Meeting on Wednesday, December 13th.  (Please see the information and sign-up form that was sent home with students last week.)
