Penquin Patch

Whitmore Parents/Guardians

The Jenny’s Penquin Patch Holiday Shoppe (Replacing Secret Santa Shoppe) is coming to our school! Next week your child will be able to experience an education, fun and exciting opportunity.

Parent volunteers will assist children while shopping to allow them to enjoy the spirit of giving.  We offer over 100 different gifts that can be purchased for as little as $0.25 and up to $10.00 each. The gift items offered are “kid selected and mom approved.” This is sure to be one of the most exciting events that your child will participate in this year.

You will be receiving (or have received) a “Gift List” Budget Envelope it will need to be completed and returned (with CASH ONLY) to the school on the date that your child’s class is scheduled to shop.  (The date and time will be attached to your child’s “Gift List Envelope”).  Don’t let your child miss this opportunity to grow and experience the spirit of giving!

To Send or Not to Send

To Send or Not To Send…

Recently we have had a breakout of illness come over our school community.  Many parents have been either calling their children in sick or picking them up during school due to a wicked virus that is rapidly spreading throughout our student body.  Therefore, we are asking that parents help us to  remind students of the importance of handwashing and covering while coughing or sneezing to assist with our efforts to stomp out this fast spreading virus.  Also included are some basic guidelines that parents can use as thier children present with symptoms to determine if they should or shouldn’t send their children to school.

FEVER

Fever is a sign that infection is present and is part of the body’s immune system reacting to infection. Children should not be sent to school if their temp is over 100 degrees by mouth.  Until fever is gone for 24 hours, the child should not go to school.  If the fever lasts more than 24 hours, or your child acts sick, you should call your physician and discuss the need to have your child seen.

SORE THROAT

Most sore throats are caused by viruses and are part of a cold.  Only about 10% of sore throats are due to strep bacteria (“strep throat”).  Both viral and strep throat infections are contagious.  Since strep can be a very serious infection, kids with strep throat should be out of school until no longer contagious, usually 24 hrs. after antibiotics have begun.  For other sore throats, children may return to school if the fever is gone.

Student attendance is very important.  However, if your child is sick with a fever or a severe sore throat, we are asking that you do not send your child to school and prevent further spread of this virus.  If attendance should become an issue, please document the illness; especially if your child is seen by a doctor.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call me through the office at 313.827.6800

Thank you for your help in knocking out this virus.
