The Fall Festival Planning Committee will be holding a planning meeting on Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 pm at Panera on the hill (3112 Fairlane Dr, Allen Park). Come get involved! So why not stop by the Watch D.O.G.S. table during Open House and sign up for a day or days to come in and spend time in the classrooms of your child(s) school? The students really enjoy the program so much, so please take advantage of it!

1. Call to Order-6:36
2. Introduction of Board and Attendees – President- Kerry Nachtrieb; Vice President – Anne Michelis; Secretary – Viki Pung; Treasurer – Stacey Brown; Health and Wellness – Chair Stacy Holland

4. President’s Report
A. Call to Action- Parents we need you to help make this year a success!!! Please sign up to help at events or chair an event. Even just joining PTA helps us out greatly.
B. Bylaws- in need of updating. This will occur at the 9/28 meeting.
C. Open House- 9/18 from 5:30 pm -7:00 pm. Parents needed to set-up event, serve food and clean up. See a Board Member to sign up to help or sign-up sheets after this meeting.
D. Fall Festival- Stacy Holland and Meghan Rosado, Co-Chairpersons- upcoming committee meeting on 9/25 at Panera (On the hill) at 7:00 pm. Please come or contact Stacy or Meghan if you are interested in helping out with Fall Festival which takes place on 10/10 from 5:30 pm-8:30 pm also see sign-up sheets after this meeting.
E. School Store- Stacy Holland- parent volunteers needed to help run this 2 times a week. Look for a Sign-Up Genius regarding helping out with this.
F. Popcorn Sales – Paula Nedziuskas – making a calendar for teachers to sign up. Contact your child(s) teacher if you’re interested in helping pop popcorn to help raise funds for their classroom.
G. Book Fair – Bridgette Andrews – Scholastic Book Fair is being held from 9/16 to 9/18. It will be open during Open House as well. Help is needed on 9/12 with set-up as well as during the event. See flier in your child’s folder soon. Scholastic Dollars earned at these events help pay for Scholastic News that supplements the curriculum for core instructional areas, provides books for Kindergarten Round-Up, and as well as other things. We will look into the logistics of having the Book Fair open before and after school only.
H. After-School Tutoring-we need high school students to help run this teacher supervised after school event. Looking into contacting Edsel Ford NHS.
5. Vice President’s Report– none
A. Buffalo Wild Wings on 9/24. Please bring the flier to get 20% of your bill donated to our PTA!
B. Possible future fundraisers: walk-a-thon, Morley Candy Sales, spell-a-thon, skate-a-thon, pizza kit sales and Dutch Mills Flowers were mentioned.
C. Decisions at future meetings regarding which to peruse.
7. Treasurer’s Report- Approval of budget for remainder of 2014 school year (a more complete budget will be available ASAP). Motion by Bridgett Andrews and seconded by Liz Courtesis. Bridgette Andrews and Nichole Abraham have volunteered to join the Budget Committee.
8. Principal’s Report
A. Thanks to the PTA for helping ensure a successful first day of school.
B. Blessings in a Backpack will be the service project for this year. It will provide meals for children to have over the weekends. Parents and students will be encouraged to attend and support the fundraising efforts of this project. Each week a parent will be needed to pick up the backpacks, either Thursday night or Friday morning. We are the 5th school in Dearborn to participate in this project (DuVall, Long, Snow and Nowlin also participate).
C. Watch D.O.G.S. Dad’s needed to sign up to be the Watch D.O.G. for a day to help out in classrooms & provide positive male role models to our children. Sign-up available at Open House or through Mrs. Syring.
D. New District assessments are in place for reading, math and language for grades K-2 and 3-5 will have those subjects as well as science assessed. The new test is called the NWEA and will take the place of SRI and Star Math
E. Wishes the PTA to consider a donation for an electronic sign.
F. Review of how Whitmore-Bolles benefited or will benefit from the bond proposal of 2013 (moving of office, technology, roof repairs and new classroom furniture were mentioned)

We will be signing up PTA members so remember your $10 or just come check out what we are all about. We will be voting on a budget for the year and making plans for upcoming events and activities.
We hope you had a great first day! It was great to see many of you today. If you are like most families we know, the summer was too short but there is excitement to get back to a routine.
We have a PTA Meeting on Monday, September 8 at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. You can sign up to be a PTA member at this meeting. The cost is $10 to join and gives you the ability to vote on how we spend our funds. Our first meeting will be centered around getting to know the new board, new parents and catching up with those of you who join us on a regular basis. We will be approving a budget for the year and talking about the upcoming plan for the year. Babysitting will be provided free of charge so we hope you can carve out an hour next Monday to attend.
